Crawford didn't use fancy products to keep her legendary face smooth and taut - she chewed gum in the belief that it firmed up her jaw and help to drain the toxins out from under her chin. She was also religious about her cleansing regime, and would splash her face 25 times with ice cold water after every wash. Joan would first start with steaming her face in front of a boiling kettle and then diving into a bowl full of ice cubes to keep it firm and clear.
Tip: try blasting your hair and body with cold water after a warm shower to shrink pores and keep hair shiny. And don't forget to massage your neck and jawline in upward strokes too.
The legendary actress dished on some of her favorite beauty tips in her book "My Way of Life." Her recipe for treating dry hair? A "masque" of mayonnaise. As a mask and conditioner for her dry hair, Joan used mayonnaise, which she’d leave on for 15 minutes before rinsing off.
In her book My Way Of Life Joan suggests avoiding cushioned seats as they “spread the hips”.
She also advises you walk around the house with toes pointed inward, for extra leg toning.
On starting a beauty club with your friends to measure your dieting success she said: “Do the weighing in and measuring every week on the same day. A woman will give up anything – from a fudge sundae to a dry martini or a grilled-cheese sandwich – to beat her fellow club members to a slim finish. She may lose a friend or two, but she’ll gain loveliness, and her husband’s pride and admiration. THAT’S worth a couple of fat friends!”
